Do you wonder about the causes of deeply entrenched addiction problems in Downtown Eastside (DTES)? Have you been following the debates around the legitimacy of Insite, the first and only safe injection site in North America? Are you familiar with the protests against the opening of new restaurants and businesses in DTES?
This Saturday, October 26th, UBC Golden Key is partnering with UBC Learning Exchange to start an open discussion while taking students and volunteers on an active workshop around the Downtown Eastside to dispel stereotypes about the area and bring awareness to both its challenges and strengths. Following the orientation, you’ll be involved with the creation of a video that examines your experience. Your involvement in the project has the potential to change community predispositions of the area and bring about positive change.
When: October 26th, 11am – 2pm
Where: UBC Learning Exchange (612 Main Street)
Free parking is available on Station Street and National Avenue near the Pacific Central railway station (within walking distance to UBC Learning Exchange).
