3CC Chairperson Hiring!


Position Title: Chairperson (1 position)

Three Course Connection (3CC) Dinner Background:

The purpose of the 3CC Dinner is to inspire and educate students about the diverse career options available after graduation and increase their awareness of interdisciplinary and cross-faculty opportunities. The audience will be undergraduate students in their 3rd or 4th year from the faculty of Arts and Applied Science, and the Sauder School of Business. At the last event, in March 2011, over 100 students attended and seized the opportunity to meet 60 Alumni who have used their degree to pursue a wide range of successful and rewarding careers.

Position Summary: The chairperson will organize and manage all aspects of the 3CC Dinner. The main responsibilities of the chairperson will be to lead the creation of a vision and setting of goals for this year’s event, and to lead and guide the planning team to implement all aspects of the event. In addition, the chairperson will provide strong leadership in the selection, orientation, and mentorship of the 3CC planning committee. The successful applicant will, with the staff advisors, guide the committee members in evaluating and determining the division of responsibilities among the planning committee members after the selection process is completed.

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours/week October – December; 5-10 hours/week January – February, and more hours closer to the day of the event in early – mid March

Description of Duties:

Coordinate the recruitment and selection of coordinators for the 2012 3CC Planning Committee in partnership with the staff advisors

Develop a vision and goal for the 2012 3CC Dinner

Plan, schedule and facilitate weekly committee meetings

Liaise with the advisory support team on a regular basis

Seek out ways to partner with the faculties’ undergraduate societies

Oversee the development and progress of the master timeline and budget

Work with various units in the Faculty of Arts, Applied Science and Commerce and with in Student Services which help support this event

Complete all tasks that do not fall under a specific director’s portfolio

Supervision Exercised: The chairperson will oversee the general activities of all the 3CC coordinators, with advice from professional staff members.

Supervision Received: The Chair will be supported by an advisory group composed of UBC staff members from – Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Applied Science, Sauder School of Business, and UBC Alumni Affairs.


Previous experience facilitating a team is required

Previous experience in project management

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

Ability to motivate and inspire others; lead by example

Demonstrated flexibility and problem solving skills

Excellent communication skills: professional email/phone correspondence, public speaking and presentation proficiency

Interest in student development and leadership

Task-oriented and reliable

Experience and willingness to learn and teach others

Previous experience with all Microsoft Office applications

Knowledge of UBC’s services and resources for students

Past experience or involvement in campus-related leadership initiatives an asset

Anticipated Learning Outcomes: The chairperson of the 3CC Dinner should expect to gain experience in an influential leadership and project management role as well as learn specific administrative aspects of working with many students, faculty, staff and members of the alumni community. Moreover, the chairperson should also expect opportunities to use and develop skills in the following (but not limited to) areas:

Staff recruitment, selection and training

Event planning and management

Committee organization

Staff motivation and productivity

Organizational development

The position of the 3CC Dinner Chairperson should reflect the goals of UBC Alumni Affairs as well as the Chair’s desired learning outcomes as they relate to his/her strengths and areas of improvement.
