Join the Editorial team of the official newspaper of the CUS!

The following positions are available:

  • News Editor
  • Features Editor
  • Layout Editor
  • Communications Coordinator
  • Marketing Manager

News Editor
Responsibilities:
– Edit the majority of articles designated to print editions for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure
– Work with the Layout Editor in preparing preliminary layouts for each issue
– Provide feedback to writers regarding their article submissions
– Submit articles from time to time (if desired)

Skills and Qualifications:
– Strong English language skills
– Confidence in ability to evaluate others’ writing
– Ability to provide constructive criticism effectively
– Desire to put your top-notch grammar skills to use in your Commerce education

Features Editor
Responsibilities:
– Edit specifically featured stories designated to print editions for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure
– Work with the Marketing Manager to oversee and edit all online content on the Cavalier blog
– Provide feedback to writers regarding their article submissions
– Submit articles from time to time (if desired)

Skills and Qualifications:
– Strong English language skills
– Confidence in ability to evaluate others’ writing
– Ability to provide constructive criticism effectively
– Desire to put your top-notch grammar skills to use in your Commerce education
– Familiar with WordPress, an asset

Layout Editor
Responsibilities:
– Work with the Editor-in-Chief to design all graphic elements of the Cavalier
– Determine an appropriate layout of the text and pictures for each issue
– Put ideas into practice using Adobe InDesign

Skills and Qualifications:
– Have a flair for graphic design
– Some experience with Adobe InDesign or are willing to learn

Communications Coordinator
Responsibilities:
– Be the main source of communication between the writing and editorial staff, especially nearing publication
– Seek and develop mutually beneficial relationships between the Cavalier and other student publications and/or clubs (ie. CUS Visual Media)
– Assist the Editor-in-Chief in organizing all team-building events

Skills and Qualifications:
– Goal-oriented and personable
– Work well as part of a team
– Want to gain some leadership experience and get involved with the CUS!

Marketing Manager
Responsibilities:
– Develop a comprehensive marketing strategy to increase readership of the Cavalier for the 2010/2011 school year
– Create and manage online media for the Cavalier (ie. blog, Facebook)
– Design the Cavalier bulletin board in Henry Angus

Skills and Qualifications:
– Are creative and full of ideas
– Have some experience creating a marketing strategy
– Are available to start work at the end of the term
– Proficient in WordPress, an asset
